Jon Williams here. I was wondering something. If you do Family Experience, what segments do you regularly use (Sketch, Word, Intro/Welcome, etc.) and which ones are you most likely to cut or not do? Also, tell me why you do or don't use these segments. Thanks.
We always use everything except the Word segment and the Rapid Response segments. We use the FX as the backbone of our children's worship hour. Parents are not there every week. The Rapid Response is generally designed for parents, not kids. The Word segment is also normally written as though the children have already heard the story/lesson. We do kids' worship first hour and small groups second hour, so I feel that we need more meat on the bones of the Word segment.
We do the greeting, welcome/intro, sketches, word, wrap up, landing/announcements and 3 songs every month. The only changing parts are Rapid Response & extra video elements. We don't really do media time usually. But, that's because we use some of those videos before it begins.
We're leaning towards not doing Rapid Response any more. There not always great and because of the crowd interaction stuff we do, it makes adults nervous and not want to be there for fear of being "called on", although that never happens. We always ask for volunteers.
We use every segment exactly as written. If we run long and MUST cut something, it will usually be the video. But, we try and keep things tight so we can do everything. We usually will only do two songs at the beginning instead of three.
Awesome. This is the stuff I wanted to know. Thanks for spending a few minutes and answering this inquiry. As you know, we are always looking for ways to help make the FX curriculum as effective as we can for reaching families. The shared experience you create between the parents and kids is invaluable. If you guys could take a look at the other post I just put up, that would be awesome. Hope you guys are all doing well.
We almost always use every component, because our production runs during a Worship Service and our Senior Pastor always goes 10 minutes long which makes for 80 minutes to cover. What I'd actually like to see is a Large Group Game incorporated like Live It Out had.
We use all the segments and our families love them! We have been doing FX every Sunday since Jan 2008 and our families look forward to their favorite 'segment'(Rapid Response is a great hit too!)! I think you have done a great job of creatively weaving different elements into FX which grabs the hearts of all age groups. All our pastors including the senior pastor makes an appearance at FX on a rotation basis - mostof the time having fun with the 'Word' segment. Personally, it would be tuff to decide what to cut...I would modify one or two segments to make them shorter (if time is an issue) before cutting a segment. We do 2 songs at the top and one in the middle.
