I know there are many programs available that provide a secure check-in for parents and their children. We've been doing the basic numbered name tag thing for years and are looking to upgrade to something that can possibly track attendance, record contact/food allergy info, and makes sign-in/out quick and easy. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations.

So we have decided to have a "Friend Day" on the last Sunday in April to honor our virtue of friendship this month. We wouldn't normally do something like this because it seems so "old-fashioned" in some ways, however, we want to get the kids excited about bringing their friends to church...... Cuz we all know, when the kids are happy, the parents are happy and more engaged. We even sent a letter to all of our parents asking them if their kids could invite some of their friends to spend the night on the 24th so they could come to church with them on Sunday morning the 25th. I hope I haven't ruffled too many feathers with that one, however we have provided a coupon for some pizza and some activities we think the kids would have a good time doing together the night before. When they come to our church services on Sunday morning we plan on throwing a big party in honor of them and using the games and Bible story provided...... Anyways, I was just curious to see if other people were doing something else in regards to the "friendship virtue". If so, what are you doing? Anyone got any great ideas to share?

It is our vision to have the same teachers in each of our preschool classes from week to week during the school year (with breaks and holidays of course). We really believe this will positively impact the experience for the preschoolers. This is not a problem in our elementary area but for some reason we just can't seem to push through in prek. When I became director 2 years ago we had this crazy schedule with people serving once/month or twice a month on the 2nd and 3rd sunday at the first service only - I get a headache just thinking about that schedule. We now have 3 teams of 2 that do serve consistently each week but need 3 more teams.

I've just recently begun tracking attendance and discovered to my total surprise that 2/3 of our families attend just one or two times a month. How can I get consistent volunteers when we don't have consistent attenders? Any ideas out there?

I've been on staff at my current church for 2 years. When I arrived, I found what I believe to be an oddity. We actually have 2 paid employees that provide care in our nursery. The only up-side to me is that you know the nursery is staffed. But what drives me crazy is the fact these two ladies are never in church, never in a Bible study, and are not growing. I believe we should staff our nursery with parent volunteers but our ministerial staff is no so excited about the idea (some of it is the issue that it's always been this way and the paid workers parents are long time members of the church as well as these 2 ladies depend on the supplemental income). Any ideas how I could present a positive transition from paid to volunteer? Or, does anyone else have this problem at their church? Just wondering...thanks for any suggestions.

I currently have an "old" message from Andy from Drive about momentum on my mind. One of the things that he mentioned (which is totally intuitive, but one of those things we don't always do) is to create an atmosphere of making things new. In particular this:

To cancel regular programming for a while and then bring it back as "new and improved".

I am thinking of doing this for our Wednesday programming for teens called TheGathering. I want to cancel it for 4 weeks during the end of the summer and bring it back the school gets back in.

My question is this: What things do you do to make it new and improved? Rather than just putting rouge on it with new lights, banners, and rearranging the chairs, and stuff like that. How do you make it something that is fresh? Any ideas?

We are just beginning plans for our family services. My gutt is to schedule the kidstuf experiences within the weekend services for maximum participation. (We have one serves on Sat. night, and two on Sunday morning.) However it has been suggested that we do them on a Friday night as the time between services is limited and space is congested on the weekends. I'm concerned about the feasibility of getting busy families out on yet another night of the week. Any feedback? What have you found to be the best scheduling options? Thanks!

Our senior leadership and elder board are excited about our vision for a KidStuf family experience. As we begin to talk about adapting space for this purpose, I was wondering if anyone out there might share some wisdom regarding stage design and construction. Where to start? What are some of the stage attributes that have proven to be most valuable for sketches, music, etc.? Any websites with pictures of stage options would sure be helpful. Budget advice? Much appreciated...

Our Student Ministry recently transitioned to the XP3 strategy at the start of this school year and we are looking to better minister to the family unit as a whole. I am interested in engaging with our parents that will bring them together with their students in a large group Family XP perhaps once a month. I have seen the success of this with our Children's Ministry using the Family Production once a month, and would like to try something with our Student Ministry. My vision is to get parents on board in understanding what we are teaching the students so that we can make a greater impact together.

Is anyone out there doing anything like this within Student Ministry that I can see a working model? Obviously there is the challenge of getting students to buy into this as to not feeling like it is lame having their parents around. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

Is anyone doing a FAMILY XP on a Saturday night?
If so, what does your schedule look like?
Is it working?

____
We are currently doing a family xp on Wednesday nights (weekly).
We are in need of adding an additional service and we are thinking about doing a Saturday Family Weekend.
(Family XP (before or after) a weekend service)
We are thinking about only doing once a month.

Any thoughts?

Our church has been meeting in a hotel for the past 4 years. Our kids meet in one of the hotel's smaller conference rooms which we divide in half. One half is for toddlers and pre-school and the other half is for elementary. We get about 45-50 kids each week.

One of the challenges we face in having consistent small group leaders is that since we only have one service per week, our leaders need to rotate in order to experience the adult worship service.

The other issue is that our environment is brutal on our kids, but especially on our volunteers. All they have is an overcrowded, square, plain, hotel meeting room with no audio or video, and it just gets so hard to engage kids in that environment. The result is that volunteers don't want to be "stuck" in there every week. Any ideas?

We recently began a spanish speaking service that is drawing many young families. We need to find a children's curriculum that can be sustained by a small group of spanish speaking volunteers. I understand that 252Basics were offered in spanish for a short time, however the low demand could not sustain these efforts. Has anyone come across a spanish curriculum that has an orange flavor? Much appreciated...
