We've been doing a Family Experience for 3 years and this past fall we transitioned from Wed. nights to Sunday nights. In our community Sunday night seems to be when families are free- back from skiing etc, no sports. The best thing about it is that on Sunday morning we promote it in big church and in our kids areas and everyone leaves wanting to come back. If we had it later in week we would lose that momentum because life enters in - work, homework, and other commitments.

It works so well for everyone and it has been a huge success. I'll tell you that I totally need a triple shot Venti latte on those Sundays though!!! :)

As I've talked to churches about where they have placed their FX, the common thread seems to be making sure you are putting it in a time slot that makes sense from your community. Best thing to do is take a look at the audience you are wanting to pull-your church families, families outside the church or a mixture-then based on your community, pick the time that is most optimal for your audience. For example, when we decided to move our FX off of Sunday morning b/c we wanted to try to draw in more non-church going families, we knew we didn't want to land on Friday nights b/c High School football is HUGE in our area-so that's where non-churches families would be most likely to be during the fall. In other words, there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer for this, instead take the time to go a really good evaluation of your community.

Check out the blog with the topic "Family XP on Saturday Nights". Diane Runge (reThink staff member) comments about Friday night compared to Saturday nights.

We've had FX on Wednesday night's and Sunday mornings. We haven't tried a Friday or Saturday yet. I think Diane has a good point about going with Friday night over Saturday. But I'm not sure how doing it on Friday AND Saturday would work.

We are just beginning plans for our family services. My gutt is to schedule the kidstuf experiences within the weekend services for maximum participation. (We have one serves on Sat. night, and two on Sunday morning.) However it has been suggested that we do them on a Friday night as the time between services is limited and space is congested on the weekends. I'm concerned about the feasibility of getting busy families out on yet another night of the week. Any feedback? What have you found to be the best scheduling options? Thanks!
