Hey Matt,
A Family XP for Student Ministry can be a tough draw. I think parents would be interested, but getting their students there might be a little more difficult. The family experience is going to change as children get older and by the time their kids are involved in a church's Student Ministry, the “combined” worship service is often “big church”. However, the XP3 curriculum may offer an occasional solution for you. Every now and then, the XP from a series will lend itself to parent involvement. While it is not a traditional “Family Experience”, it’s a way to incorporate parents and students in one event. Also, because the interaction between parents and students is more conversational, the information we send out in the Home XP for each series can be a catalyst for those conversations.

One other suggestion. If you are looking to have some sort of outreach to parents to help cast vision and encourage them in your partnership with them, the Parent Link Live product may be a possible resource for you (https://secure.rethinkgroup.org/store/product.php?productid=761.) It’s a great resource to help parents understand the 5 Family Values and Orange’s 40/3000 principle.

Hope this helps. Feel free to call the XP3 extension (866.343.4874 ext 7132) if you'd like to talk through this some more if you need anything else.

~Kristie (XP3 PDD)

Our Student Ministry recently transitioned to the XP3 strategy at the start of this school year and we are looking to better minister to the family unit as a whole. I am interested in engaging with our parents that will bring them together with their students in a large group Family XP perhaps once a month. I have seen the success of this with our Children's Ministry using the Family Production once a month, and would like to try something with our Student Ministry. My vision is to get parents on board in understanding what we are teaching the students so that we can make a greater impact together.

Is anyone out there doing anything like this within Student Ministry that I can see a working model? Obviously there is the challenge of getting students to buy into this as to not feeling like it is lame having their parents around. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!
